A key with preload adjustment is making sure to do it out on the trail so that you can get a true assessment of the suspension in real terrain. The best trails to test them on are ones with a substantial amount of bumps and whoops to truly test the travel on your shocks.
You will want to take the snowmobile down the trail initially to get a feel for where the shock setting currently is. Identify if they are set to strongly or softly. Make small adjustments depending on your desired outcome. Then take the snowmobile back down that same trail to feel the difference.
